How our programs

support classical music

As Seattle’s oldest musical organization, the Ladies Musical Club’s original mission in 1891 was to foster an appreciation of classical music in a city just starting to find its identity. 134 years later, we continue working to fulfill this goal, providing LMC musicians and our colleagues with opportunities for professional growth, networking, and performances.
Provide new and established musicians with performance opportunities, for the public and/or peer groups
Bring classical music to children and schools with limited arts budgets and music exposure
Organize and present free public concerts open to all members of the community
Partner and work with other musical groups and organizations to identify collaboration prospects
Host educational talks and discussion groups centered around classical music and its history and trajectory

Music In Schools

Bringing Classical Music To All Ages

We recognize the importance of exposure to classical music at an early age, and our Music In Schools (MIS) program is focused on providing this opportunity to a broad spectrum of children around the Seattle area. We specifically seek elementary schools that have limited or no organized music program or professional staff - an important educational opportunity that frequently disappears first amid lack of public funds.

Frances Walton Competition

Our Yearly National Competition

For 40 years, our Frances Walton Competition has invited classical musicians ages 20 to 35 to audition for an award package that helps their career and increases their exposure. The winners of this competition embark on community outreach tours and perform in schools and community venues throughout locations in Washington State.
